{NOTICE NSFW} PlayWithMatch and all associated content is extremely NSFW (not safe for work). Even more, a lot of the content created is beyond sexual in nature. Some contains graphic photos, links and discussions about body-modification, blood and other such topics. Please know that content created by PlayWithMatch is more than just naked photos and 'racy discussions'. So even if you enjoy NSFW content this stuff is way beyond simple naked pics and should be viewed in full knowledge and acceptance of that fact. {What is PlayWithMatch} Started in 2007 Playwithmatch was a living performance art project that used technology, specifically social media, to document my sex and sexuality. See the Artist Statement below. {Social Documentation}
{Is it still active?} Yes and no. Yes because what is on the internet will always be. So in a way, PlayWithMatch will go on forever. However, I ceased actively contributing to the project in early 2010. While I will, from time to time, occasionally add to the project it is for all intents completed. {Using Technology} When the project started social media was just finding its legs. Media sharing sites like Flickr and YouTube were well known but others like Twitter, Tumblr and even Facebook where just becoming ubiquitous. I wanted to see if I could create disparate 'timelines' of my sexuality using these new technologies within the media they specialized in: Tumblr for images, Twitter for text updates and Flickr for archival media. Beyond just social documentation I was also curious about 'purity of brand'. In 2007 most people were using social media as a shotgun. @replies were still in public feeds and there was a lot of 'noise'. I was curious if, using discipline of message, I could create a channel where people knew that their would be no noise, no extraneous chatter; to create a branded experience where if you saw something come in from PlayWithMatch you knew it would be on message. To accomplish this I create a few social 'rules' I needed to follow. Rules
In order to fulfill rule #1 I would need to 'tweet' during sex - the entries you see of me doing explicit acts were literally happing as I was documenting them. Initially this lead to awkward looks and some hurt feelings (the last thing someone wants to see is their partner typing on their phone during sex). But as my sexual partners became comfortable with the idea many of the enjoyed participating. It was fun to see the @replies of people we never met cheering on any given activity. It was exhibition on a whole new level. {Artist Statement} PlayWithMatch.com is an exhibition project I started in 2007 to use technology and social media websites to publicly document my sex and sexuality. It has never really been my goal to lay a linear road map of my sexuality. Rather I am creating several disjointed timelines each of which offers voyeuristic documentation within their own natural and technical landscapes. Other than the occasional audio podcast I don't tend to blog much. Instead, I am relying on photos, videos and microblogging 'tweets' as my primary documentation tools. This allows me to exhibit the moment rather than the memory. Things I typically document: public play parties, orgies, scarification, body modification, group sex, public BDSM scenes, private anonymous encounters, sexual correspondence and of course masturbation. Hope you enjoy this project as much as I have enjoyed making it! Peace, Love and Forever Match, P.S. If you wish to fuck me, hurt me, date me, kiss me, chat with me, bleed for me or wish to otherwise interact with me my contact info is below. |
